Ocho Rios is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Jamaica, located on the north coast of the island in the Garden Parish of St. Ann. Waterfalls and cliffs punctuate a landscape of mountains stretching down to meet secluded bays lapped by brilliant blue water. It's no wonder Columbus considered this "...the fairest island ever eyes beheld..." when he landed near here over 500 years ago. The port of Ocho Rios is popular with tourists for more than its beauty. There is plenty to do while you're here. Visit the open-air museum of Columbus Park in Discovery Bay, and Oracabessa - filled with quiet fishing villages, secluded coves, and Goldeneye, the former home of James Bond author Ian Fleming, now an exclusive resort. While in Ocho Rios, visit Harmony Hall - a restored Victorian mansion showcasing Caribbean art and crafts with work by many of Jamaica's best artists. Stroll through Shaw Park Gardens where you'll find stunning views of the coast and many indigenous plants, trees and flowers. Learn about Jamaica's first inhabitants - the Arawak Indians - at Cobaya River Garden and Museum. The Prospect Plantation, where sugarcane, coffee and bananas are harvested, offers tours and horseback ridings. The three crops were an important part of the industry fueling Jamaica in the 18th century. Commune with nature at Dunn's River Falls, one of Jamaica's best-known attractions. Linked to others in your group, you carefully climb the waterfall and then are rewarded with a dip in the pools below. Go spelunking in Green Grotto Cave - really two 120-foot underground caves, or horseback ride above ground at Chukka Cove, a well-known equestrian facility. The resort facility features polo matches but also offers lessons and trail rides. Another cove - Dolphin Cove - offers a quite different experience, allowing visitors to encounter or swim with dolphins and learn about these magical creatures. A bit further afield, drive through towering fern trees along the three-miles stretch of Fern Gully, visit the tiny village of Nine Miles where Bob Marley was born and is buried, or visit the Seville Great House & Heritage Park at St. Anne's Bay.
