Take the ferry out to visit the island once owned by Errol Flynn where he hosted his lively guests. It's a great place to picnic and muse about the way things must have been back then. Mandeville is a great place to spend a long weekend, with a cooler climate, British heritage, scenic gardens and a 19th century church and courthouse. Mandeville offers hiking or horseback riding, garden tours, or you can birdwatch at Marshall's Pen - a 300-acre cattle farm, complete with great house, gardens and a bird sanctuary. Not far from Mandeville, the South Coast offers a curative dip in the Milk River Bath, a glimpse of crocodiles or manatee at Long Bay Morass. Drive down Bamboo Avenue framed by bamboo groves, and stop for a visit to Appleton Estate's rum distillery. Wherever you choose to explore, these alternative destinations won't disappoint you.
