Jamaica's warm, clear waters, with a visibility of up to 100 feet, are a diver's heaven, with colorful coral reefs and fish, sunken ships, caves, canyons and more. The best diving can be found on the north and west coast of the island, with Negril as the star diving attraction. Jacques Cousteau marveled at the dramatic sponge life in these waters, and you'll marvel at the underwater life too. It's easy to find dive operators to take you on snorkel and scuba trips, either through the resorts and hotels or among the beachside operators. All dive operations are governed by tough international watersport licensing laws, outlining specific equipment and safety standards. Visitors can locate recommended dive operators through the Jamaica Association of Dive Operators in Montego Bay. Beginning divers will be best served through courses at all-inclusive resorts, or in the calm waters of Negril. Calm waters off the coast of Negril are a great place to get certified and are one of the top diving spots in Jamaica to boot. Other popular dive spots include sites near Port Royal and the Kingston Airport, Devil's Reef near Ocho Rios, and the Montego Bay Marine Park. Prices for a dive (including tanks, weights, the boat ride and a guide) range from $30 to $60 for a single dive and $95 to $400 for multiple dives. Several good dive operators include the Negril Scuba Center, North Coast Marine Sports, and Buccaneer Scuba Club.
